Yonkers Named One of America’s Safest Cities in 2025
Yonkers has earned national recognition for safety, ranking among the top five safest cities in the United States, according to a new 2025 report from WalletHub.
The personal finance website reviewed more than 180 U.S. cities, measuring each across over 40 indicators that reflect different aspects of safety. Researchers organized their findings into three main categories:
Home and Community Safety
Natural Disaster Risk
Financial Safety
Each city received a composite score out of 100, with higher scores indicating a safer environment. WalletHub’s analysis included factors such as crime rates, traffic fatalities, assault statistics, unemployment, and health insurance coverage to create a detailed comparison across cities.

According to the report, Yonkers ranked 5th overall in the nation, performing especially well in community-related measures:

118th in Financial Safety
New York City, meanwhile, placed 117th overall, with the following category scores:

66th in Natural Disaster Risk
100th in Financial Safety
While New York City faces challenges tied to its size and density, Yonkers’ smaller scale and strong community infrastructure contributed to its high marks.
