2 Detained After Shots Fired on New Main Street in Yonkers

Yonkers police say two individuals are in custody following a shooting incident Thursday afternoon.

Officers were called to the vicinity of 228 New Main Street shortly before 2:30 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. When they arrived, police recovered several shell casings and quickly identified two people who had allegedly fled the area. Both were later apprehended.

A spokesperson for Yonkers Public Schools confirmed that Ella Fitzgerald Academy was placed on a precautionary lockout due to the nearby police activity. The lockout was lifted between 3:00 and 3:05 p.m., and students were dismissed on their normal schedule.

Police say no one was hurt, though a vehicle was struck by gunfire. As of late Thursday afternoon, authorities reported no ongoing threat to the community.

Investigators are still working to determine what prompted the shooting.
