At just 25, the Democratic candidate for New York's 90th Assembly District is emerging as a rising figure in Westchester politics, combining experience in state government with growing relationships among New York's political leadership.

With Election Day just one week away, Frank Jereis is making a compelling case that he is ready to represent Yonkers in the New York State Assembly from day one.

The 25-year-old Democratic candidate for the 90th Assembly District has spent much of his young career working at the intersection of local politics, community advocacy, and state government. Now, as he seeks to succeed retiring Assemblymember Nader Sayegh, Jereis appears to be expanding his political relationships well beyond Yonkers.

According to information shared with The Yonkers Post, Jereis welcomed Adrienne Adams, the Democratic candidate for New York lieutenant governor, to his campaign headquarters on Saturday, where the two campaigned together. Jereis is also expected to join Governor Kathy Hochul on the campaign trail on October 29, just five days before voters head to the polls.

The meetings offer a glimpse into the political relationships Jereis is cultivating and the kind of access that could prove valuable to Yonkers residents should he be elected. For a city whose financial and legislative priorities often depend on decisions made in Albany, having an Assembly representative who understands how to navigate state government could make a meaningful difference.

Young in Age, Experienced in Government

At 25, Jereis would bring a youthful perspective to the State Assembly, but his résumé reflects years of experience in the political and legislative process.

A lifelong Yonkers resident, Jereis currently serves as chief of staff to Assemblymember Nader Sayegh, providing him with firsthand experience in the workings of the State Legislature and the needs of the communities it serves.

He also serves as executive director of the Yonkers Democratic Party and has spent more than five years as a Democratic district leader. His professional background includes work with the Yonkers Commission on Human Rights, local campaigns, and community advocacy.

Earlier this year, Jereis became a licensed New York attorney, adding a legal background to his experience in public service.

While he has not previously held elected office, he has spent years working within the institutions and political structures he hopes to join as a legislator.

A Growing Coalition of Support

Jereis' campaign has attracted support from an established coalition of elected officials, labor organizations, and community stakeholders.

Among those endorsing his candidacy are Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, State Senator Shelley Mayer, and Assemblymember Nader Sayegh.

His campaign has also secured support from major labor organizations, including 1199SEIU, 32BJ SEIU, the AFL-CIO, and Teamsters Local 456, as well as organizations representing Yonkers police officers and firefighters.

The breadth of those endorsements is notable for a first-time candidate, reflecting relationships across different levels of government and among organizations representing a wide range of workers and community interests.

Those relationships could prove valuable in Albany, where collaboration is often essential to securing funding, advancing legislation, and delivering results. They also highlight Jereis' ability to bring together groups with different priorities around a shared interest in Yonkers' future.

Facing Republican John Isaac on November 3

Jereis will face Republican John Isaac in the November 3 general election for the 90th Assembly District, an open seat following Sayegh's decision not to seek another term.

Isaac, a Yonkers resident and businessman with a background in financial services, has campaigned on fiscal accountability, public safety, and securing a fairer share of state education funding for Yonkers. He has emphasized his private-sector experience, presenting himself as an alternative to the political establishment.

Jereis, meanwhile, has made his experience within state government a central part of his appeal. His campaign priorities include addressing housing and utility costs, investing in public schools, strengthening public safety, and reforming the Tier 6 pension system affecting public employees.

The contest presents voters with two candidates offering different professional backgrounds and approaches to representation.

For Jereis, the argument is straightforward: Yonkers would benefit from an Assemblymember who already understands the legislative process, has relationships with decision-makers, and can begin working on the city's priorities without having to learn the system from scratch.

His victory in June's Democratic primary demonstrated his ability to build electoral support, while his growing coalition of endorsements has further strengthened his position heading into November.

At just 25, Jereis has positioned himself as a rising figure in Westchester politics, combining legislative experience, legal credentials, and an expanding network of relationships from Yonkers to Albany.

As voters prepare to choose their next Assembly representative on November 3, Jereis is making the case that he has not only the ambition to serve, but the experience and connections to make an impact from day one.
