Driver Charged After Car Fire in Rockland County

A driver is facing charges following a car fire in the Town of Ramapo on Sunday evening.

According to police, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on College Road. Responding crews found an unoccupied vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The driver, who remained at the scene, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, with a blood alcohol content reportedly nearly two and a half times the legal limit.

Police say the driver’s brother also attempted to interfere by knocking a phone from someone’s hand as they recorded the scene.

College Road was closed in the area for about an hour while crews worked to put out the fire.
