Yonkers Opens Nominations for 2026 “Women of Distinction” Awards
The City of Yonkers is inviting residents to nominate outstanding local leaders for its annual Women of Distinction Awards, a celebration held each March in recognition of Women’s History Month.
The awards honor women who have made meaningful contributions to the Yonkers community through leadership, service, and advocacy. From classrooms and hospitals to small businesses and neighborhood organizations, the program highlights women whose work has strengthened the city and improved the lives of its residents.
Mayor Mike Spano encouraged community members to take part in the nomination process and recognize the women making a difference across Yonkers.
“Our city is shaped and strengthened by the dedication and leadership of extraordinary women,” Spano said. “They serve as educators, entrepreneurs, health professionals, advocates, and mentors — and their impact is felt throughout our neighborhoods. I urge residents to nominate the women who inspire them so we can celebrate their achievements and encourage the next generation of leaders.”
Nominations must be submitted by Thursday, March 12 through the City’s website at www.YonkersNY.gov/women.
Honorees will be selected in partnership with the Mayor’s Women’s Advisory Board. The award ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the Ceremonial Courtroom on the fourth floor of Yonkers City Hall.
The annual event serves as a centerpiece of Yonkers’ Women’s History Month observances, spotlighting the individuals whose commitment and service continue to move the city forward.
