Yonkers Seniors Could Save Up to 50% on Property Taxes

Seniors in Yonkers are being urged to act now to take advantage of a major property tax break that could cut their tax bill in half. This property tax exemption offers up to a 50% reduction in taxable property assessment for qualifying senior citizens.

While the legal deadline is October 15, 2025, the City of Yonkers is recommending applications be submitted by early to ensure timely processing.

Who Qualifies?
To be eligible for the Senior Citizens Property Tax Exemption, applicants must meet the following basic criteria:

• Be 65 years of age or older
• Reside in the property they are applying for
• Meet income and residency requirements, which vary depending on the municipality

Each New York county, city, town, village, or school district can set its own maximum income limit, which can range anywhere from $3,000 to $50,000. For seniors whose income slightly exceeds the local limit, some municipalities offer a sliding scale to provide a partial exemption instead of a full denial.

How to Apply
Applications are available online through the City of Yonkers' official portals:

• First-time applicants: RP-467 Initial Application with Worksheet
• Renewal applicants: RP-467 Renewal Application with Worksheet
• Applicants are encouraged to submit documentation early, especially if they need help or corrections before the official cut-off date.
