Barry McGoey Launches Bid for Greenburgh Town Supervisor

A longtime resident of Greenburgh, attorney, and public servant, Barry McGoey has formally announced his campaign for Town Supervisor, saying the community needs stronger leadership, clearer communication, and greater accountability at Town Hall.

McGoey said his decision to run was finalized after the Town’s response to a recent water main break that disrupted service for large numbers of residents.

“The response to that emergency revealed serious gaps in leadership, communication, and coordination,” McGoey said. “People were left without basic information and without essential services. That experience made me question how effectively our Town government is operating.”

He added that his concerns grew following the release of reports indicating that nearly $30 million in tax revenue was not collected by the Town, which he said highlights significant weaknesses in financial oversight.

“Learning that tens of millions of dollars in taxes went uncollected should concern every resident,” McGoey said. “When you look at that alongside the way recent emergencies were handled, it becomes clear that Town government needs new leadership and renewed focus.”

According to McGoey, both the infrastructure failures and the financial shortfalls point to deeper, systemic issues with planning, management, and accountability.

“If elected, I will work to modernize how our Town operates,” he said. “That includes restoring fiscal discipline, improving oversight, and ensuring that public funds are managed responsibly and transparently.”

McGoey said a major focus of his campaign will be long-standing flooding and infrastructure problems throughout the Town.

“Residents have been raising concerns about flooding and infrastructure for years,” he said. “We need thoughtful planning, long-term investment, and leadership that treats these challenges as urgent priorities.”

He also stressed that his leadership style would center on collaboration and open engagement with Town officials and residents.

“The Supervisor should unite people and help the Town Board work effectively together,” McGoey said. “My goal is to lead with integrity, preparation, and respect for the community.”

McGoey brings experience in government operations, budgeting, labor relations, and public administration. He currently serves as an elected Trustee in the Village of Ardsley.

“At the heart of this campaign is restoring public trust,” McGoey said. “Greenburgh deserves leadership that is competent, accountable, and focused on the future.”

McGoey is seeking a place on the ballot to compete in a Democratic primary against incumbent Town Supervisor Paul Feiner.
