Westchester County Adds New Metrocard Van Dates to Support Riders this Fall

Expanded Access Available in New Rochelle, Mount Vernon and White Plains Through December
Westchester County announced that residents will have more opportunities to purchase and refill MetroCards this fall thanks to an agreement with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). Beginning Saturday, October 4, the MetroCard Van will now visit Westchester two Saturdays a month through December, providing expanded access at transit hubs in New Rochelle, Mount Vernon and White Plains.
This change comes in response to limited MetroCard availability across the region and reflects the County’s efforts to ensure residents can continue traveling without disruption. While the MetroCard system is being phased out, riders can expect a transition to the MTA’s OMNY contactless payment system in early 2026. Until then, these extra van visits are designed to bridge the gap and keep travel accessible.
County Executive Ken Jenkins said: “We know that public transit is the backbone of daily life for so many of our residents, and reliable access to MetroCards remains essential until OMNY is fully rolled out. This is a practical solution that helps our riders today while we prepare for the modern system of tomorrow.”
