Hochul Responds to Mayor Spano’s Criticism Over MGM’s Casino Withdrawal

Governor Kathy Hochul is downplaying calls from Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano for an investigation into MGM Resorts’ decision to pull out of the state’s casino licensing process.

Spano criticized the company’s withdrawal from consideration by the New York Gaming Commission and the Gaming Facility Location Board, calling the move “a betrayal to the people of Yonkers and Westchester County” and saying it “defies all logic.”

The governor, however, said she sees no reason for a probe, noting that she has not seen any evidence of wrongdoing.

“I think MGM likely made a financial decision based on its own business needs,” Hochul told reporters, adding that the licensing process will continue with the three remaining bidders.
