Construction Begins on Cross County Center Expansion in Yonkers

Work is officially underway on a major retail expansion at Cross County Center, the open-air shopping destination located at 8000 Mall Walk in Yonkers. The project will add approximately 58,000 square feet of new retail space to the longstanding Westchester property.

Originally opened in 1954 with just 30 stores, the 1.15-million-square-foot center is now preparing for its next phase of growth. The expansion, designed by TPG Architecture and developed by Marx Realty, will be built on the site’s northern portion.

Plans include two new buildings: a 14,000-square-foot single-story structure and a larger, 44,000-square-foot, two-level building. The larger space is expected to house a flagship location for a major national apparel brand. The project also calls for underground parking, upgraded vertical access systems, and adjustments to existing tenant layouts to integrate both new and current retailers. Infrastructure work is already in progress.

Beyond retail, the development introduces a new four-acre public park intended to serve as a central gathering space. Designs feature a tree-lined promenade, flexible seating areas, and open space for community programming such as farmers’ markets, seasonal events, and wellness activities. A nearby boardwalk with café-style seating and shaded areas will function as a redesigned main entrance, complete with updated signage and landscaping.

Cross County Center sits at the junction of the Cross County Parkway and Interstate 87 and is accessible via Metro-North Railroad’s Yonkers Station, offering a direct connection to Grand Central Terminal.
