New Film Studio Expands Yonkers’ Growing Role in the Entertainment Industry

A newly opened film studio in Yonkers is drawing attention as the city continues to strengthen its reputation as a hub for television and movie production.

The facility, known as Mediapro Studios, sits just off North Broadway and operates as part of Great Point Studios. Local leaders say the space is already attracting major productions and high-profile talent.

According to Mike Spano, the mayor of Yonkers, the studio recently hosted filming for a new television project starring Tracy Morgan. He also noted that Apple currently has a production underway at the facility.

City officials say the studio’s activity reflects the continued growth of the entertainment sector in Yonkers—an area sometimes referred to as “Hollywood on Hudson.” A 2024 report cited by the mayor estimates that film and television production generates roughly $46 million in annual sales within the city.

The industry also provides additional revenue streams for the municipality. Officials say Yonkers collected more than $900,000 from film permits, location fees, and taxes connected to hotel stays from visiting production crews.

For filmmakers, the city offers several advantages. Television director Mike Smith said Yonkers provides convenient access to New York City along with a community that is welcoming to productions.

“We look for places that are close to the city, easy to work in, and supportive of filming,” Smith said, adding that Yonkers checks those boxes.

Robert Halmi, CEO of Great Point Studios, said the company has significantly expanded its presence in Yonkers. The studio currently operates nine soundstages across its facilities, with six more stages under construction.

As more television series and films choose Yonkers as a production base, Mayor Spano said the city intends to continue supporting the industry’s growth.

“We make sure filmmakers have what they need to work here,” Spano said.
