Metro-North Riders Face Fare Hikes and New Policies in 2026

Starting in January 2026, Metro-North riders will see fare increases and changes to ticketing policies following a vote by the MTA.

Monthly and weekly tickets will increase by up to 4.5%.

Other ticket types to Zone 1 will rise by as much as 8%.

CityTicket fares: peak fares will go from $7 to $7.25, and off-peak from $5 to $5.25

Additional changes include:

  • A new Day Pass replacing round-trip tickets, allowing unlimited travel until 4 a.m. the following day

  • A mobile discount, offering one free ride after 10 trips within 14 days under the new pay-as-you-go system

  • A $2 increase to the onboard ticket surcharge, including tickets activated in the TrainTime app

Reduced fares continuing for seniors, people with disabilities, and Medicare recipients at all times.

Officials note that even with these increases, monthly ticket prices remain below pre-COVID levels.
