Yonkers City Clerk Vincent “Vinny” Spano Announces He Is Cancer-Free

After nearly a year of treatment and determination, Yonkers City Clerk Vincent “Vinny” Spano has shared uplifting news: his doctors have found no evidence of disease following an intense battle with Stage 4 colon and liver cancer.

Spano, who was diagnosed in November 2024, underwent several major surgeries to his liver and colon, endured months of chemotherapy, and received hepatic artery infusion treatments. Throughout it all, he continued to perform his duties as City Clerk, overseeing efforts to modernize the office and make city services more accessible to residents.

“I just got the call that every cancer patient dreams of — there’s nothing left to treat,” Spano said. “This journey has been exhausting, painful, and frightening, but I never lost faith. My wife, Jaime, and my sons, Vincent and Nico, gave me the strength to keep fighting when I felt I couldn’t go on. Their love kept me grounded through every setback and sleepless night.”

Even while undergoing aggressive treatment, Spano stayed active in city service — a reflection, he says, of his connection to the Yonkers community.

“The people of Yonkers reminded me every day why the fight mattered,” he said. “To everyone who prayed, called, or simply offered words of encouragement — thank you. Your support carried me through.”

His wife, Jaime Spano, spoke on behalf of the family, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of kindness they received:

“This experience tested our faith and our strength. We’re deeply thankful to everyone — family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues — who surrounded Vinny with love and hope. Today, we celebrate his recovery, the power of perseverance, and the incredible spirit of this community.”

The Spano family also extended appreciation to the medical professionals who guided his care and to the city residents who stood by them through the most difficult months. With his health restored, Spano says he looks forward to continuing his public service with “renewed purpose, gratitude, and energy.”
