Luck struck three times at a Yonkers gas station this week, where three separate $1 million Powerball tickets were sold for the same drawing.
According to the New York Lottery, the winning tickets were purchased for the October 20 Powerball draw at V & C Taneja Inc., a convenience store and gas station located on Nepperhan Avenue. Each ticket matched all five white numbers — 32, 38, 66, 67, and 69 — but missed the red Powerball, which would have secured the jackpot.
The store quickly became a local hotspot once word spread. On Wednesday, customers lined up to buy their own tickets and to see the now-famous shop in person.
“We had a lot of people coming in today, including many regulars playing extra because of the excitement,” said store manager Shahid Shah. “Everyone’s hoping some of that luck rubs off.”
While no one hit the grand prize, the Powerball jackpot rolled over to an estimated $305 million for Wednesday night’s drawing.
A Rare Streak of Good Fortune
It’s highly unusual for one retailer to sell multiple second-prize tickets in the same drawing, a coincidence that has fueled plenty of curiosity among Yonkers residents. The New York Lottery has not yet said whether the three tickets were purchased by the same person or by different players.
